Blink and you'll miss it

The same boy, two years apart. Can I tell you where that time has gone? Can I heck! In my experience, babies are only really babies for as long as they can’t sit up on their own. Then they are only toddlers for as long as they are unable to really verbalise their thoughts. This young man is a CHILD. Don’t ask me to explain the difference between a toddler and a child because it’s a feeling in my heart.

It’s an incredibly clichéd thing to talk about how fast time goes as a parent but that’s only because it dawns on everyone sooner than they expect that their little baby is all grown up! The things we weren’t that fond of (understatement) we suddenly miss knowing we will never have it again. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could pause time? OH WAIT! Us photographers can do that for you! Well, almost - we can at least freeze it so that you can always look back on the cheeky faces your child made or the hair they grew in odd places. I for one can never quite get over how fat Teds was. You think you’ve drunk it all in but you wake up one day and can’t believe how much they’ve changed. For the better (mostly!) but that doesn’t mean you don’t want to squeeze their baby chub just one more time.

I find it a privilege to help families capture and remember these moments, and am in a lucky position that I can do it for my own little family too, so I really do understand the value of it! What do you miss most about your little one as a baby? Let me know!
